Accessibility

Accessibility.

Northgate House Derby aims to make this website usable for as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technology.

Standards

What we aim for.

The site is built to follow modern web accessibility practices, taking guidance from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA where practical.

Accessibility is treated as an ongoing improvement rather than a one-off check. As pages are updated, the team reviews structure, contrast, focus order and labelling.

Features

What's in place today.

  • Semantic HTML structure with clear headings and landmarks.
  • Full keyboard navigation across menus, links and form fields.
  • Visible focus states for every interactive element.
  • Colour contrast tuned for readable body text and headings.
  • Responsive layouts that scale from mobile through desktop.
  • Descriptive alt text on photography and meaningful imagery.

Limitations

Where we know there's work to do.

The team is aware that parts of the site need further checking and refinement:

  • Some longer-form pages may include content that has not yet been fully verified for screen reader compatibility.
  • Embedded third-party tools (such as maps or form widgets) may not match the accessibility level of the rest of the site.
  • Older PDF documents linked from the site may not be fully accessible. Replacements can be requested on demand.

If you hit a barrier on any page, please get in touch. The team treats every report as a chance to fix something.
