Getting around

Most students living in DE1 walk almost everywhere during term. For longer journeys, the city has Arriva and Trent Barton buses, and Derby Midland Station handles all trains.

Food and cafes

The Cathedral Quarter, around Iron Gate and Sadler Gate, is where most of the indie cafes, restaurants and bars sit. The Market Hall and Eagle Market are the best stops for affordable food and local produce. For curry houses and international shops, Normanton Road is the long-standing spot.

Shopping

Derbion (about 3 minutes from Northgate House) is the main shopping centre, with over 150 stores including Primark, H&M, Next, JD Sports and a cinema. The Cathedral Quarter has independent and boutique shops if you want a break from chains.

Derby's main student venues are in the city centre, within walking distance of central student accommodation.
